Chairs are among the most familiar pieces of furniture, used daily and tied to personal tastes, memories, and cultural habits. To introduce Polish furniture brand Artu to the German audience we created a first joint exhibition at NEBN Gallery in Düsseldorf to explore the topic around chairs in a conceptual, artistic way, telling stories in each exhibition room inspired by Düsseldorf’s character.
The exhibition begins with the multi-colour Taptap collection (1), a vibrant and festive display that captures the city’s carnival spirit. Its bold colors and lively forms bring light to winter days while paying tribute to pioneering design icons.
The journey continues into a space shaped by Düsseldorf’s Japanese influence (2), where artist Takumi Ogata’s waterfall illustrations create a poetic backdrop for new chair models, balancing stillness and movement and inviting reflection on the bond between humans and nature.
Finally, a peep-box room (3) reveals hanging chair fragments like mobiles, exposing the furniture’s essence. This intimate installation recalls Mintropstraße’s transformation from industrial vibrancy to urban decay, contrasting sharply with the serene religious imagery of its namesake, painter Theodor Mintrop.
